Whether you choose to hire a search engine optimization specialist, do all the research yourself and enlist in the help of a web content writer, or do all the research and write the content yourself, our goal, when we design, redesign or make updates to your website is to improve your website's searchability. In addition to improving search engine optimization, our goal is to create a website that is also user friendly so that visitors don't bounce straight back out of your website after they click to it from a SERP. As well, all our websites are now created with a responsive design, so that they are mobile friendly, which (since April 2015) improves your search rank on mobile phones.
When we work with you on your website, in addition to page content, we ask that you supply a "meta description" for each page of your website. The meta description should be about 25 words in length (150-160 characters including spaces) and contain the primary key phrase(s) for the page. We also ask for a list of keywords/phrases, about 6-8, for each page, in order of importance. We also recommend that you create titles for each page that not only grab the readers' attention, but also include your main keyword/phrase for the page. The title, description and keywords should be different for each page.
In the background coding of each page, we add (a sometimes shortened version of) your page title or the main key phrase(s) for that page to the title tag, and the meta description and keywords to the corresponding head tags. Where possible, we add your keywords/phrases to the alt and title tags of images and links. We also give your page and image files appropriate filenames using descriptive words and, where possible, keywords.
We also ensure that the content of each page contains links to other pages on your website. These are in addition to those that appear on every page in the main menu bar and footer. These extra links aid SEO by enabling search engine spiders to crawl to other pages in your site. They also aid usability (visitors don't have to scroll back to the top to go to the next page) and accessibility (the title tag within the link lets visitors know where the link goes when it is clicked).
Before we upload your website to your web server, we ensure that the HTML and CSS code used in your website meet web standards by validating the code. We check for compatibility with the most popular web-browsers, and view your website on different screen sizes and resolutions to make sure everything looks the same and functions correctly. After your website is uploaded to your web server, we repeat all three checks and also check for broken links.
Once all checks are done and your website is published, we index your site with all major search engines: Google, Yahoo and Bing as well as AboutUs.org and Alexa.com.
